Breakfast Clubs for Schools
Read more about breakfast clubs in schools
Good morning, I was enjoying my breakfast whilst watching BBC Breakfast News and heard the fantastic news, that the Government and schools are funding The National School Breakfast Programme. Children will get a free breakfast and have a chance to see their friends before school starts. Children need breakfast to nourish their bodies, give them energy for their day ahead and boost their learning.
Did you know, that breakfast boosts brainpower? Evidence shows that children who eat healthy breakfasts are able to solve problems better and can think faster and more clearly. It also improves our wellbeing and behaviour. No-one wants to be hangry… that’s hungry and angry at the same time. This shows how important it is for us all to have breakfast. Imagine the brainpower we’d have, if we all had breakfast! Wow!
Would you eat a snail?
Have you ever eaten a snail?
When I got dropped by the eagle into Mel's garden, I had no idea where I was. I was scared and tired. Then by some miracle I found a little cave to live in. I was soooooo hungry. My tummy rumbled and rumbled. I saw funny creatures sliding along in a shell. “What on earth are they?” I thought.
A picture of some friendly snails!
I picked up one of these creatures and I licked it! Eugghhhhh! My tongue got covered in slime! Don’t try this! I put it down and let it slide away! Mel told me that snails are eaten by birds and hedgehogs.
What Is This Weird Green Thingy?
What has Mel given me?
What has Mel given me? It's a very strange, looking thingy! All green with bobbly bits. I think it is quite beautiful really. It is my mission to find out what it is. What do you think it is?
Mel helped me research it on her computer. It's called a Romanesco broccoli. That doesn't look like the broccoli that I've had before. I do like broccoli. It is like eating tiny trees! Ha ha! Apparently this type of broccoli has more flavour. What can I make with it? Any ideas?
What is this furry brown egg fruit?
Have you seen one of these before?
What's this weird, furry thingy?
Mel says its called a kiwi fruit. Did you know that Kiwi fruits are amazing? I’ve never had a kiwi fruit before.....have you? I’m going to try it!
The kiwi fruit is a funny looking brown, hairy, weird egg-shaped thing!
Mel peeled the hairy skin off, because you don’t eat that bit, and the sliced the kiwi fruit up for me to try.
Mmmmm… I liked it. It's really juicy! It's soooooooo juicy that it made my fur sticky!
Another way to eat a kiwi fruit is like a boiled egg! Mel cut the top off a ripe kiwi and gave me a spoon. Did you know you can eat a kiwi fruit like a boiled egg. How cool is that? It's a fun way to eat fruit. I really like the green juicy fruit. Have you ever tried one? If not, would you try one?
